Kuei-Chih Lee
Artist Profile
Born in Yunlin County, Taiwan, Kuei-Chih Lee is a Taiwanese environmental art artist who learns directly from nature and connects with natural elements through his own relationship with nature, physical labor, and his perception of the organic world, in order to understand his inner soul and consciousness and interpret natural philosophy.
Kuei-Chih Lee’s work uses one of the most powerful metaphors in Chinese philosophical thought, “water”, as a catalyst for thinking, to sculpt the flowing energy of the natural world. His nature sculptures connect the tangible world with the invisible universe between movement and stillness, as well as the inner and outer states of mind, and communicate and coexist with the surrounding environment, thus exploring the essence of creation and the relationship between people, nature and the environment. Lives in Taiwan and works all over the world.

Title: Floating Dune

Zhuangwei Township in Yilan County has long coastal dune terrain, and the formation and evolution of dunes are mainly affected by wind. The wind blows the sand grains, causing the dunes to migrate. This work is called “Floating Dunes”. This natural sculpture transforms the elements and kinetic energy of nature into artistic expression. The migration of dunes and the movement of wind are constantly changing physical phenomena of the land and nature. This phenomenon can also be seen as an interaction between humans and the environment, as if our relationship with the land has also drifted with time and environmental changes. The social relationships we experience are constantly changing within abstract social structures. The pursuit of speed and data in modern society has caused people to lose sensitivity to the real environment and social relationships they live in. This is also reflected in the disappearance of people’s in-depth experience of the scenery around them and the disappearance of “viewing” in modern technology and fast-paced life. And regard natural art as a deceleration behavior in the pursuit of speed in life. With this kind of performance work that opposes the fast pace of modern society, people may be able to reconnect with nature, through the viewing of art and the flow of inner aura, to experience the beauty and changes in life, and how art can become a medium to express and understand its changes and landscape.
